How we approach author agreements
Every arrangement is specific to the title. These are the principles behind all of them.
You keep your copyright
Authors retain copyright in their work. What an agreement grants us is a licence to publish, on the terms recorded in that agreement.
Credit as standard
Authors and illustrators are credited on the work and in catalogue listings for every edition we produce.
Ask before you sign
We would rather answer questions early than have an author agree to something they are unsure about. Bring a lawyer or an agent if you want one.
Please note: this page is a summary for general guidance. The terms that apply to any particular book are the ones in that book's signed agreement, and those take precedence over anything described here.

Tell us what you need
Email us with the title, edition, and the exact pages or images you want to use.

Explain the use
Let us know where it will appear, the print run or audience size, the territory, and whether the use is commercial.

We respond in writing
Where we hold the rights, we will confirm the terms and any fee. Where the rights sit with the author, we will point you to them.
